Local Quartets:  Good Intentions

What sad, happy and terrific happenings since our last issue!  Here are some that we can catch up on.

Our condolences to Doug and Elizabeth Iles, on the passing of Doug's father.

Our condolences to Bob and Anne-Marie Shami, on the passing of Bob's mother.

Brenda and Sean McMurray had a son, Caelin John Christian, on November 22. (9 lb, 14oz)

Eddie Cloutier had an interesting 75th birthday weekend, (it was today, actually), although
the story that went with it was surely interesting.

Kevin Collar went off to school in Southern Ontario, and is reportedly doing well at broadcasting school.

We gained a bunch of new members!  They include Dave Corbett, Don Holley,
Ted Luck, Carl Meyer, Vic Mizzi, Don
Myers, Jim Schmidt and Jim Townsend.
We also received a pleasant returnee, Dan Rae.  Welcome, guys.
My apologies if I missed anyone, and please inform me you were missed.

Jim Lake became our BARBERSHOPPER OF THE YEAR for 2004!

There were so many reasons why you, the membership, nominated Jim, and some special ideas were given
as well.  A person who doesn't hate to ask people to help, said that Jim was special, because when he was
asked to do something, you knew it would get done, quickly and beyond the realms of hard work and
attention to detail.  Thanks, Jim.   (another mentioned his cool bike)

2005 chorus contest goes wild!

The international chorus contest is reaching a new level of excitement: a wild card playoff
in Salt Lake City to pick six additional choruses for the championship finals!

The 2005 international chorus contest will be feature competitors qualified in three ways:

<> The sixteen (16) District Chorus Representatives selected through the standing procedure at
Fall District Contests.

·         Choruses from affiliate organizations invited under standing rules. Usually, no more than two or three participate.

·         A chorus wild card playoff consisting of up to twelve (12) choruses from the Barbershop Harmony Society. The top six (6) scoring choruses progress to the international chorus contest finals.

·         In total, as many as 30 and as few as 22 choruses could compete in the finals; a total of 22-25 choruses seems likely, based on previous affiliate participation.
